A New Era for Western Australian
Tourism and Economy
Perth Film Studios is poised to be a game-changer for Western Australia, marking a significant milestone in the state’s economic and cultural development. Situated on a sprawling 16-hectare site in Malaga, this world-class facility is set to elevate WA’s presence in the global film and television industry, providing a substantial boost to local tourism and the economy.

A State-of-the-Art Facility
The construction of Perth Film Studios is a testament to innovative design and engineering. The installation of massive steel roofing structures, each spanning 40 metres and weighing 30 tonnes, signifies the project’s rapid progress. Upon completion, the studio complex will boast 8,200 square metres of interior production space, encompassing production offices, an art department, wardrobe facilities, workshops, set storage, and ample parking. Additionally, the 23,200 square metre backlot will provide expansive outdoor filming opportunities, larger than the playing field at Optus Stadium.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
Funded by a $233.5 million investment from the Western Australian Government, Perth Film Studios is not just a landmark project but also a significant economic driver. The construction phase alone has created 600 direct and indirect jobs, with one-fifth of the workforce comprising apprentices and trainees, including a notable number of Indigenous employees. Once operational, the studios will continue to generate employment opportunities, supporting hundreds of jobs within the local film and television industry.

Boosting WA’s Tourism and International Appeal
Perth Film Studios is set to attract major productions from around the world, positioning WA as a premier destination for filmmakers. This influx of international and national productions will not only enhance the state’s cultural landscape but also stimulate tourism. The presence of high-profile film and television projects will draw visitors, boosting local businesses and hospitality sectors. The strategic location near the new Malaga METRONET station further enhances accessibility, making it a convenient hub for industry professionals and tourists alike.
Long-Term Vision for WA
The development of Perth Film Studios aligns with Western Australia’s broader economic diversification strategy. Treasurer Rita Saffioti highlights the studio’s role in setting up the state for long-term success by fostering new industries in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs. This initiative reflects a commitment to creating sustainable economic growth, leveraging the creative industries to propel WA onto the global stage.
A Bright Future Ahead
With construction well underway and the studios set to open in early 2026, Perth Film Studios promises to be a cornerstone of WA’s creative economy. The project underscores the state government’s dedication to supporting the arts and culture sector, providing a state-of-the-art facility that rivals the best in Australia. As the finishing touches are applied to this remarkable complex, the excitement continues to build for what will undoubtedly be a beacon of innovation and opportunity for Western Australia.
