Designed by Cumulus, Old Young’s Distillery prepare to launch their new project: a $30 million “Cathedral of Gin” in Henley Brook.
This remarkable structure, designed by Cumulus Studio, stands as a testament to creative vision and innovation in the heart of the Swan Valley.
From humble beginnings in a tin shed, Old Young’s has quickly risen on the world stage, recently winning two prestigious international gin awards in 2023. Now, founder James Young is pushing boundaries again, envisioning a destination that could reshape Swan Valley tourism as profoundly as South Australia’s iconic d’Arenberg Cube did for McLaren Vale.
A Landmark of Art and Architecture
Dubbed a “Cathedral of Gin,” this project is an architectural masterpiece. Cumulus Studio’s design pays homage to Old Young’s original roots, with the structure spiraling skyward like a twisted lemon peel—a fitting tribute to the craft of gin. Inside, guests will find a sustainable distillery featuring tasting rooms, luxurious accommodation, and even a hidden bar for adventurous visitors.
The distillery aims to draw gin lovers and tourists from around the globe, with hopes that it will transform Swan Valley into an even more vibrant destination. According to Young, the inspiration behind this project is not just about creating a structure but about building a legacy.
A Boost for Swan Valley Tourism
James Young and his team are setting the stage for a tourism boom in Swan Valley, drawing parallels to the d’Arenberg Cube, which increased McLaren Vale’s day-trippers from 130,000 to over 350,000 annually. If successful, the “Cathedral of Gin” could bring a similar surge, making Swan Valley a top destination for both Aussies and international visitors.
A Chance to Own a Piece of History
In an exciting twist, Old Young’s is also launching a crowdfunding campaign on Birchal, inviting fans and investors to become part-owners of this venture. It’s a unique opportunity to be a part of this bold new chapter in Australian craft distilling and tourism.
As Old Young’s transitions from a “little distillery that could” to an architectural and cultural icon, we can’t wait to see the lasting impact it will have on the Swan Valley and the Australian gin scene. Cheers to Old Young’s for their audacious spirit, and here’s to the “Cathedral of Gin” becoming a landmark of taste, tourism, and triumph in WA!
